I've been in IT for 33 years starting as a Student Computer Operator at the University of Arizona. I worked late nights hanging tapes and ripping printouts on systems such as IBM MVS, Primos, Dec VMS, and Unixes of many flavors. I originally started with OS/2 on my personal computers from the "...a better Windows than Windows..." angle. I was trying to eek out more performance on an aging, hand-me-down PC and OS/2 2.11 was cheaper than the memory optimizers of the time. I installed OS/2 in dual boot mode and began migrating my Windows based applications one by one to OS/2. Eventually, I realized I had not booted back into Windows for over six months and left Windows behind for a good many years.
